THANKS BE TO GOD!

"I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.  For what I do is not the good that I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do - this I keep on doing.  Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.  What a wretched man I am!  Who will rescue me from this body of death?  Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." 

Romans 7:18-20, 24, 25 - 8:2

This was Jake's favorite verse, and speaks so much to the Spirit of life that so many of us saw developing in him as God was setting him free from the things that he struggled with as he returned from active duty as an army medic in Iraq.  Impact Church had truly become his spiritual family as he participated in life groups, the BIG men's ministry, a couple's life group with Lisa, and most recently, a new formed Healing Communities group.  This would have been the life verse read at his baptism, which he had planned for our lake baptism service this summer.  While we mourn his loss and pray for and actively extend God's comfort to his family, we rejoice that he is now experiencing what he already believed in faith - freedom from the law of sin and death, and eternal life with Christ!
